Shompole Wildlife Marathon is a trail running event held in the vast wilderness between two of the worlds largest trona lakes in Kenya, East Africa

Shompole Wildlife Marathon will include a 30km, 20km and 10km race routes in the stunning trails and tracks of one of the world's most abundant natural environments. This unique marathon is already established as one of Kenya's finest trail marathons taking in fully marked trail single track, game lands and featuring salt lake spa running. The event is held in the Shompole Wildlife Conservancy which is a protected area inhabited by wildlife such as wildbeests, zebras, hyenas, antelopes, thompson gazelles, girrafes, ostriches and a variety of birdlife. Lions, elephants, cheetahs and other carnivores are restricted to a protected corner of the conservancy well off the marathon route. The race starts at 6:15am and would normally end at 10 - 11am. Being on a Sunday, we encourage all runners and their families/supporters to arrive on Saturday and stay overnight in one of the three campsites provided. Proceeds for the event goes towards supporting Beyond Athletics; which is a Non Profit that uses the power of sports to develop and support talented children from Kenyan slums to become responsible young adults and successful career sports men and women.

SOUND ORGANISATION, GREAT TRAILS AND GREAT FRIENDS. THE 2018 SHOMPOLE WILDLIFE MARATHON WILL RETURN YOU TO THE SOUL OF THE SPORT AND LEAVE YOU WITH A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES.

Generally, the route consists of over miles of salt-lake running and dirt trails. The end of the run is fairly easier. You run on top of the ridge between lakes Magadi and Natron, which provides us with a wonderful view out over the lake's plateau and the adjacent Oldonyo Lokie and Oldonyo Sabuk Mountains.
